A Hop, Skip and a Ferry Across to France for the Weekend!

Andy and I hired this Wicked Camper Van over the weekend and caught a ferry across to France. (Dieppe, Normandy). The van was a two seater with bed table and chairs and a sink and cooking utensils in the back.

We caught the ferry Friday night and arrived in France 3.30am Saturday. Drove for about half an hour then parked down a one way street in a little village for a 3 hour sleep. This is what we woke up too....(and what they would have woken up to!!)

First stop, Rouen, as the sign reads...this is where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake.
This is the Joan of Arc Church (Looks like a big ship)... at the same spot. Her story is in the stained glassed windows of the church.

Our Beatles Van and Mont Saint Michel (it's an impressive island due to varrying tides and has a huge cathedral upon the top).

On the road across to Mont Saint Michel we thought what better place to stop for lunch. So armed with our red wine, fresh cheese, french breads and meat, we parked the car and set up for lunch...how did we miss the no parking sign!?! The 20 or so busses that drove by us must have thought we were crazy!!
The tide was out!
Sitting on the side of the road..watching the sheep stumbling back and forth

Again...the no parking sign! Feeling kinda silly now.

Strike a pose! Sitting on the Cathedral wall
After a couple drinks, we figured it time to freshen up and head out for dinner and a few more drinks. So we went for a little drive out of town, parked on the side of the road, put on some music, boiled the kettle and freshened up. Who needs a hotel room when you have the great outdoors!

Dieppe, Sunday, just before hopping on the ferry back to England. We could have cried. Only arrived in time to drive a lap and jump on the ferry. It was a beautiful day. Everyone out drinking wine, eating cheese and relaxing in the sun...
We were stuck on the ferry waiting for 2 hours!
The boat ride back across to Newhaven

All in all a fantastic weekend!

Drank some french wine, ate some french food and even met a few of the french people. Even if they didn't really understand us, we had a ball with them all!

Our Beatles van got a lot of attention too. Stares non stop. Didn't help that we would Singalong to Andy's Beatles Cd.

Caen Hippodrome...Sunday morning...(note to self)
