Romania- Shepherds, Gypsies & Transilvania (Dracula)

There you go Dad..look closely. We went on the bus througha town called Roman
Like the Hollywood hills..little tacky
Must have known I'd arrived. They put on a concert and fireworks in the Square
Europe's Narrowest Street
The Jewish Synagoge in Brasov

The Romanian kids in the traditional clothes of Romania..they did a little dance for us too.

Brasov Square
Sibiu

The town walls of Sibiu. During the plague they put these holes in the walls so that they could flush all of the dead bodies out of the city.
Me in the town square

All the very old locla buses
The hills of Transilvania
Rasnov

View from the castle in Rasnov. The town used to hide all their money, treasues and woman and children in case of an invasion in the town below.
Bran Castle. This is the Castle Bram Stroker based Dracula on. Dracula is fictional, although there was a man by the name of VladTepes also called Dracula, meaning son of the Dragon. He was historically known for impaling his enemies and eating dinner as he watched them dye on their sticks. As he helped free the Romanians from the Turks he was much loved belioeve it or not. It's unlikely Vlad Tepes ever made it to this castle, but not all the tourist know this..the real castle of dracula is higher up in the mountians...see the pic below
Bran Castle court yard

Bran
One of the many shepherds roaming about with his flock

\Transilvanian countryside and the snow capped mountains

Hay Carting
Vlad Tepes (Dracula)

Dracula's real castle...nothing like Bram Stroker's
Another Shepherd with his flock
Vlad's Castle...1500 step climb..half of the castle has fallen down the other side of the mountain.
Bran Castle again

Sighisoara

They were filming some movie!?

Bucharest! This is the 2nd largest building in the world, after the Pentagon. Pretty amazing. To build it, the president of the time had 1 sixth of the city cleared to make room for it, leaving whoever did live there homeless. Once it was built the country understandably turned on him and had him and his wife killed, wasn't that long ago either.
A Bucharest Monestary and church

A guy we met, Matt, he was in the process of moving to Romania from Sweden, and Jase.
On the train crossing the Danube River between Romania and Bulgaria.

Sunday morning, said goodbye to Jason, (15 April) as he went back to London for work and I ended up continuing onto Bulgaria.
